Hey all,
I run a niche apparel store and am still pretty new to it. I recently got a fraudulent order.
It was the first time Shopify let me know that there was a high risk of fraud, so naturally I held off on fulfilling it for a couple of days. I never reached out to the fraud email.
The credit card owner ended up charging back the order yesterday, and I was charged a $15 chargeback fee.
My question is, is there a way to appeal the chargeback fee?
I don’t understanding punishing the merchant with an extra fee, when I can’t control people stealing and using credit card info.
While very unlikely, fraudsters can flood my store with orders and I would be punished for it every time.
What’s the reasoning behind this? Am I supposed to cancel all high risk orders immediately?
I understand doing due diligence and reaching out to the fraudster to verify identity, but who would honestly admit to that?
Please help.
