Do you think eCommerce sites with no branding will eventually fail?

I see competitors getting huge traffic volume from their branded names. The website I am working on only has an exact match domain, so it is essentially just a keyword as its main source of traffic.

I struggle to gain higher rankings on other product pages in this niche because maybe Google just doesn't see us as an authority. Is branding the site the way to go?

Thoughts?
