This month, the team at Oracle has celebrated Black History Month by honoring our commitment to learning and standing united for equality. We’ve enjoyed sharing with one another and paying tribute to the accomplishments and contributions of the Black community.
As part of the conversation, we invited the team to tell us about the Black leaders who motivate them in their daily lives. Here are a few of the inspirational quotes and messages they shared.
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. We have seen the most innovation and progress when we're not trying to be heroes and we reach across the aisle to other teams who can help us develop new solutions." – Keith McLeod, Vice President, Marketing Operations, The New York Times

“Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.” – Dr. Mae Jemison, Astronaut, physician, Peace Corps alum, teacher, and founder and CEO of two technology companies

“You can and should set your own limits and clearly articulate them. This takes courage, but it is also liberating and empowering, and often earns you new respect.” – Rosalind Brewer, incoming Walgreens CEO, former COO of Starbucks, and former president and CEO of Sam’s Club

"Diversity and Inclusion is not just the right thing to do; it is a business imperative." – Traci Wade, Oracle Senior Director, Diversity & Inclusion
-Submitted by: Annie Calfo, Marketing Specialist – “There are so many important factors to consider when it comes to Diversity and Inclusion, but I feel so grateful to be a part of an organization that realizes the value of embracing diversity of thoughts and backgrounds of its employees!”
“As athletes, the biggest assets we bring to the workplace are our work ethic, our confidence, our never-say-die attitude. We're about winning.” – Katrina M. Adams, Author, Athlete, and former President, Chairman, and CEO of the United States Tennis Association

"The time is always right to do what is right." – Martin Luther King, Jr.
-Submitted by: Annie Calfo, Marketing Specialist: “I was struck by how simple and intuitive, yet profound the statement is. We often get so caught up in our own lives, thinking about what’s next and trying to stay ahead, that we don’t slow down to look at what’s directly in front of us.”
“It’s super important to have really good conversations with your leaders and your mentors, because through those conversations, you’re going to get all of that great advice that helps you best highlight your career goals. Then leverage data as part of the way you highlight your career skills so that people view you as a potential technologist. There’s a perception that sometimes data can be a bad thing because it’s going to tell you what you did wrong. But part of failing enough times to learn how to get it right is based on data.” – Carolyne Matseshe-Crawford, VP of Fan Experience, Fanatics
-Submitted by: Mia McPherson, Group Manager of Advertising and CX Digital Content
“My shero is Ruth E. Carter. She designed the costume for Black Panther and all the costumes in the movie. She is a master in design and marketing and does a lot of research to help design the costumes of her choice. She cares about bringing dignity to the costumes the characters wear, especially because many of the costumes she creates are for characters that are of extreme importance to the African American community.”

“Tracee Ellis Ross has always been an inspiration to me. She’s an actress, producer, and businesswoman who has a passion for beauty. She owns a haircare line called "Pattern" to which she is the CEO and is now a Diversity Inclusion Advisor at Ulta. Currently, Ulta's brand portfolio includes 4% Black-owned businesses and could increase as a result of her leadership. I'm excited to see how she will continue to pave the way for Black women and business owners across the country.”
